From the author

Why I built CHANGE.

Matias Blomqvist
Matias Blomqvist

I am Matias Blomqvist. I qualified as a physician at the University of Turku in 2018, and my work has focused on maintaining health and preventing disease — and through that, on weight management and the treatment of obesity. I see patients privately at Suomen Painoklinikka, where I have also worked as the physician on group and individual weight-management courses.

In my work I have seen how high the threshold is for many people struggling with their weight to ask a professional for help with their habits. My recommendation to see a dietitian or a nurse specialising in weight management often goes unused. The reason I hear is that people believe they already know enough about weight management and would rather do the work independently.

At the same time, more and more people ask an AI instead: how many calories or how much protein, what kind of exercise, a low-calorie recipe. The answers are usually quite accurate these days. But in my experience an AI cannot yet, on its own, guide someone constructively towards lasting change — unless it is carefully instructed to.

That is what made me build CHANGE. I wanted to offer a program for working on change independently that is still interactive, rather than a weekly newsletter you only read.

The difference

Three things this program will never ask you to do.

01

Counting calories.

No logging, no counters, no tracking apps. Counting works while you are counting and stops working the day you stop. We spend these four months on the things that keep working afterwards.

02

Following a diet.

No food is removed from your life. There is no list of forbidden ingredients and no phase you have to survive. What changes is how eating fits into your day — not what you are allowed to eat.

03

Living by the scale.

It would be dishonest to claim the number on the scale means nothing, and you are free to keep an eye on it however you like. But the program is not built on regular weigh-ins, and no week is judged by the number you saw that morning.

The program

Four months, four themes.

The coaching is built around the four themes that matter most for weight management. They take turns throughout the program, and each round goes a level deeper than the last. That way the change has time to settle into your everyday life, step by step.

Nutrition

A meal rhythm that keeps hunger in check, enough protein and vegetables, and treats as part of a normal week. Practical ways to eat well at home, when eating out and at parties.

Topics include

  • A regular meal rhythm
  • Sources of protein
  • The 80/20 rule and treats
  • Eating out and parties

Movement

From everyday activity and easy-paced exercise to strength training and intervals. You find ways of moving that suit you and make exercise a routine that lasts through busy weeks too.

Topics include

  • The power of everyday activity
  • Strength training
  • A home workout plan
  • Short workouts

Sleep and recovery

Sleep affects both your energy and your eating: too little of it strengthens cravings. Evening routines, a regular rhythm, light and your bedroom, and rest that genuinely helps you recover.

Topics include

  • Evening routines
  • Caffeine and alcohol
  • Napping
  • Signs of sleep disorders

Stress and mind

Stress, emotions and the way you talk to yourself often steer eating more than knowledge does. Tools for stress and emotional eating, and for carrying on when a week does not go to plan.

Topics include

  • Your circle of control
  • Emotional eating
  • Self-talk
  • Slip-ups are part of the process

How the four months unfold

  1. The start: taking stock, first steps

The first weeks look at where you are starting from: why you want to change, and how you eat, move, sleep and experience stress. The change starts right away, too: each theme gives you a first concrete habit to try.

  2. The themes take turns and deepen

Nutrition, movement, sleep and mind take turns, and each round goes deeper. About once a month you pause for a check-in: what has gone well and what has been hard.

  3. The end: your own plan

At the end you look back on what you have learned and plan which habits you will carry with you after the program.

🍓 Substitute Treats

Common diet advice goes: "If you crave chocolate, just have some berries and yoghurt instead." But let’s be completely honest — for many of us, that simply doesn’t work.

We often end up eating the berries, the yoghurt, and the chocolate anyway, because the original craving never actually went away!

💬 What’s your experience with sweet cravings? Does swapping for a "lighter" option really work for you — or do you find it’s better to just purposefully enjoy a proper portion of the real thing?

Exactly! When I crave chocolate, anything else I eat is just a detour and I end up having the chocolate too, only now I've also had

  1. A coaching message arrives a few times a week. It is written in advance and carefully thought through, and it ends with a question or a task.
  2. You answer when you get to it — that evening, on the bus, three days later. Nothing expires and nothing is graded.
  3. From there you carry on the conversation with your coach: you learn more about the theme and, above all, work out for yourself how to make it work in your own everyday life.

Your coach does more than answer questions. The conversation is meant to help you reach your own insights and to fit the changes into your everyday life in a way that suits you. You can also ask for recipes or a training plan, and ask anything else that comes to mind.

And when you have not managed to do what you meant to do — a treat took over, or the planned workout turned into an evening on the sofa — you can talk it through with your coach without judgement and get back on track. There is no schedule to agree in advance: you can pick the conversation up where you left it, and take breaks during the program.

Your coach is an AI assistant, not a clinician. It does not diagnose or treat, and it will say so when something belongs with your own doctor.

Questions

Before you start.

When does the program start?
Immediately. Your first message arrives as soon as you finish setup, and the program continues for four months at a few messages a week.
What if I miss a few days?
Nothing happens. There is no streak and no penalty. The next theme arrives as scheduled, and the conversation is still there when you come back to it.
What if I want a break, or want to stop?
You can pause with one click and billing pauses with it — your place in the program is kept. You can cancel any time from your own account page, and delete your account and your data yourself. And if the program turns out not to be what you expected, cancel within 14 days of signing up and everything you have paid is refunded automatically — you do not have to ask.
What about weight-management medication?
CHANGE does not prescribe, recommend or adjust medication — that belongs with your own doctor. The program also works well alongside medication.
Is this medical care?
No. CHANGE is an educational and coaching program, and your coach is an AI assistant rather than a clinician. It does not diagnose, treat or replace care from your own doctor, and it is not a substitute for individual medical advice.
What happens after the program?
At the end of the program you and your coach go through what you have learned and make a plan for what comes next. After that, you can keep talking with your coach for a monthly fee. No new coaching messages arrive, but you can write to your coach any time, just as before.
Which devices does it work on?
All the common ones. CHANGE works in your web browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC — there is nothing to install from an app store.

Come and try it.

If CHANGE sounds like the right fit for you, try it. Your first message arrives the moment setup is done. And if the program turns out not to be what you expected, cancel within 14 days and your money is refunded.
